Inspiration: Tribal Neck Rings

June 7, 2009

My newest piece is a futuristic and colorful crocheted take on ethnic tribal rings. I hope to finish it very soon and post pictures of the completed result.

These two pictures serve as great inspiration. The first one is a picture of Icelandic singer Bjork, taken from her “Homogenic” album. The second one is a picture of a member of the Karen tribal group who live along the Thai and Burmese border.

I love the simple, yet powerful, look of these rings. Although they are quite controversial, the aesthetic serves as fodder for a host of design experiments.

Yes! They are certainly my newest inspiration. I can’t wait to finish the ones I’m working on!
