Delwin and I were anxious to get out of the house this Wednesday, so we decided to check out a concert at the Bowery Ballroom listed on Metromix. The show featured  Bowerbirds, with the opening act a band called Megafaun. Unfamiliar with both, we decided to venture out with an open mind, although, judging from the concert ad,  expecting simple, sweet folk ditties.

Megafaun are three men from North Carolina that look like farmers. One even whipped out a banjo, and I was sure we were in for a real bluegrass special. What we got instead was surprisingly refreshing and intelligent, organic rock, with tight harmonies and a dash of electronica. They were a mixture of TV on the Radio with Iron and Wine, yet carried a distinct sound all there own. I was blown away.

The Bowerbirds were awesome too, but it was the opening act that left the biggest impression. Here’s a pic of me with the drummer! They were all really nice.
