Crochet at the Gilles Larrain

July 14, 2009

I spotted these pieces in the window of artist Gilles Larrain‘s gallery. It was rather dark, and the window was dusty, but you can still see the vibrancy, provocativeness and creativity in them.

Larrain is principally a photographer, whose work features graceful movement and beautiful poses. I especially like his black and white photographs, as it reminds me of early portraits in the 1800’s. This is from his “Flamenco” series (1997):

He is also a painter, having done a series of paintings featuring the Chanel No. 5 perfume bottle.

It is always exciting to see crochet and knit within the context of “serious” art, especially featured among the work of this distinguished artist.
